Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today hosted a tea party in honour of newly elected Constituent Assembly members of his party — the Nepali Congress — at his residence.

CA member Dr Minendra Rijal said the PM told the NC CA members to play an important role to safeguard the tenets of mu lti-party polity. “It was basically an introductory gathering,” he said. According to another participant, Amod Prasad Upadhyay, the PM urged the NC CA members to exercise caution and play constructive role to bail the country out of current complex political situation.

Parties were able to resolve the political complexities in the past and they would be able do the same this time again, he quoted the PM as saying.

Stating that there was no alternative to consensus politics, the PM said everybody needed to stand firm and play constructive role while writing a new constitution.
