PM to seek suggestions from MPs on India visit

Kathmandu, February 15

Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli is scheduled to address the Parliament tomorrow and seek suggestions from parliamentarians regarding his maiden India visit.

According to Speaker Onsari Gharti’s press adviser Babin Sharma, the prime minister will seek suggestions from leaders of different political parties at the Parliament on his upcoming India visit, tomorrow. The PM is embarking on a six-day maiden India visit from February 19.

Sharma said since the PM’s address has not been included in the work schedule for tomorrow’s meeting of Parliament, he will address the House after demanding time from the Speaker. Deputy leader of CPN-UML parliamentary party and former speaker Subas Chandra Nembang said top leaders of different parties will give necessary suggestions to the PM in tomorrow’s Parliament meeting. He said the PM will inform the people about his important trip through the Parliament.

Asked whether the PM’s initiative seeking suggestions and informing people through the Parliament was a unique attempt, Nembang said he was not aware of any such extensive discussion held at the Parliament before the foreign visit of any government authority.

Nembang said he had encouraged leaders to inform Parliament before any important foreign trip and after the trip. He, however, said the PM might reveal some of his major agendas during his address to the Parliament tomorrow.

UML leaders claimed that the PM would finalise his final agenda for India visit only after receiving suggestions from the leaders of different parties during tomorrow’s meeting of the Parliament.

Oli has already sought suggestions from leaders of parties representing the Parliament where most of them had suggested that he should not to strike any deal against national interest. They had also suggested that he focus on strengthening relations with the southern neighbour.

During the meeting, acting President of the main opposition party Nepali Congress Ramchandra Paudel had criticised PM Oli for failing to present his agendas at the meeting.
