Poison victims’ families halt traffic in Ilam district
Ilam, December 21:
Families of two children who died of water poisoning and other victims obstructed Ilam section of the Mechi Highway today, demanding compensation.
Lokendra Hang Limbu, 8, and his sister Buddhakala Limbu, 4, died while 29 villagers were infected after consuming contaminated water after a local Purna Bahadur Yonghang, allegedly
mixed poison in drinking water pipeline in Banjho, Mangsebung in Ilam on November 19 last year. The agitators disrupted traffic on the highway in Ilam and Rabi-Ranke section in Damak to protest non-fulfillment of their demands.
Nanda Kumar Nembang, coordinator of the PVAC, said they were compelled to obstruct the vehicular movement, as the government had ignored their plea for compensation.
Meanwhile, vehicular movement in Taplejung and Panchthar districts came to a standstill after the strike called by the Pallo Kirant Limbuwan National Munch continued today also.
Meanwhile, police arrested six cadres of the PKLNM today for vandalising vehicles in Puwakhola bazaar of Ilam.
