The Rautahat police has seized 204 kilograms of illegal cannibis from smugglers at the Indo-Nepal border in district headquarters Gaur, on Monday.
Acting on a tip off, a coalition team comprising personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police force were able to confiscate 17 packets of illegal cannibis which were abandoned by the smugglers.
The smugglers were attempting to smuggle marijuana packets to India through the Indo-Nepal border located at shores of Lal Bakaiya river in Gaur Municipality-02.
Meanwhile, even as the security personnel discovered the smugglers in action, they succeded in making an escape into the Indian territory, however, they had to hastily abandon the posession.
The marijuana is believed to have been brought to Gaur from hilly districts of Nepal to be smuggled into India.
Spokesperson of Rautahat police Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sunil Malla confirmed that the incident that took place at about 1:00 pm. He later revealed that the 17 packets contained illegal cannibis that weighed 204 Kilograms in total.
"Investigation into the matter is ongoing. The identities of the smugglers both who fled to India and those who brought the illegal marijuana into Gaur will be soon revealed and subsequently apprehended", added Malla.
