Police seize 2,500kg contraband black pepper being smuggled into India

RAJBIRAJ: Police on Saturday night seized about 2,500 kilograms of black pepper being smuggled into India from the no man's land in Saptari district.

According to District Police Office, Saptari, a team of police deployed from the Area Police Office, Sakhada impounded a pick-up vehicle laden with a huge quantity of black pepper being smuggled to India from Chhinnamasta Rural Municipality-2 along the border area.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajendra Bista said police also arrested the driver Sundar Sutihar (28) of Chhitaha Rural Municipality-6 in Sunsari district.

According to the DPO, the driver, vehicle along with the seized black pepper have been handed over to Customs Office in Rajbiraj for further investigation.

The market value of the seized black pepper is approximately Rs 800,000.
