Poll booths in schools opposed
Pokhara, January 22:
Agitating students unions today submitted signatures of some 50,000 people to the Kaski District Education Office demanding not setting up poll booths in the schools.
The signatures, collected from the students of Pokhara and Lekhanath municipalities, was submitted to Narayan Subedi, an officer at the DEO because the District Education Officer Yogendra Bahadur Basnet not in his office, said Sobiyat Dhakal, president of the Free Students’ Union, Prithvi Narayan Campus.
The signatures were collected from 25 public, two private and two campuses in the localities, students said.
The rally of the students, that began from the gate of Prithvi Narayan Campus had reached the DEO at noon. The participants of the rally also chanted different slogans when the security forces prevented them from entering the DEO premises. After submitting the signatures, the students also organised a corner meeting.
Addressing the corner meeting, Dilip Neupane, chairman of All Nepal Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), Kaski said: “We will remove any booths that are set up in academic institutions.”
