Poll panel to submit poll result to prez by Feb 14

Kathmandu, February 8

The Election Commission today said it would submit the final election result to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari by February 14.

Election Commissioner Narendra Dahal told THT that the poll panel would announce parliamentary proportional representation election result tomorrow and write formal letters to political parties to recommend names of winners within three days from the closed list they had submitted prior to the election.

He said the EC could not announce parliamentary PR election result today due to some technical reason.

“If the parties submit names of winners correctly within the given deadline, we’ll submit the final result to the president before February 14,” said Dahal. He said the EC would extend the deadline by two days if parties failed to recommend names of winners correctly.

As per the constitution, the EC has to submit result of the election of the parliamentary election within a week of announcing the final result.

Although provincial and parliamentary elections were held on November 26 and December 7, the EC had steadfastly refused to announce the parliamentary PR election result, arguing that the result of NA election was imperative to determine the number of women candidates parties had to recommend for the PR seats.

The constitution has ensured 33 per cent representation for women in the federal parliament that consists of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.
