The Election Commission today released the final results of parliamentary and provincial assembly elections held on November 20 to elect 825 representatives - 275 members in the House of Representatives and 550 members in the provincial assemblies.
Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said at a press briefing that the EC would submit HoR election results to the president tomorrow.
The law requires the poll panel to submit final results of the first-past-the-post and proportional representation elections within seven days of final results being announced.
He also said that the poll panel would submit provincial assembly election results to respective governors on December 17.
As many as 184 men (66.90 per cent) and 91 women (33.10 per cent) were elected to the HoR in November 20 elections. Similarly, a total of 350 (63.64 per cent) men and 200 (36.36 per cent) women were elected to seven provincial assemblies.
Out of 86 political parties that had registered with the EC to contest HoR election, 61 contested elections under the FPTP system and 47 under the PR system.
A total of 2,411 candidates, including 225 women contested HoR election under the FPTP system and 2,191 candidates, in-cluding 1,187 women, contested the PR election. A total of 3,224 candidates, including 280 women and one other candidate, contested for provincial assembly elections under the FPTP system and 3,708 candidates, including 1,511 women, contested elections under the PR system.
The total number of candidates who contested for HoR and provincial assemblies were 11,542. Out of 17,988,570 eligible voters, 11,047,034 (61.40 per cent) cast their votes on November 20 under the FPTP system out of which 10,487,958 votes were valid and 559,076 (5.06 per cent) votes were invalid.
A total of 11,126,226 voters (61.85 per cent) cast their votesunder the PR system, out of which 10,560,082 votes were valid and 5.09 per cent votes were invalid.
In provincial FPTP elections, 11,034,500 voters (61.36 per cent) cast their votes, of which 10,585,300 votes were valid and 4.07 per cent were invalid. Under the provincial PR election, 11,028,376 voters (61.31 per cent) cast their votes, of which 10,300,611 votes were valid and 6.55 per cent voteswere invalid.
A total of 2,324 candidates, including 1,961 candidates for the HoR election, failed to secure 10 per cent votes, thereby losing their deposit.
Forty out of 47 political parties which contested HoR election lost their deposits.
In provincial elections, the number of parties that lost their deposit is 10 in Province 1, 26 in Madhes, 33 in Bagmati, 24 in Gandaki, 22 in Lumbini, 22 in Karnali, and 28 in Sudurpaschim. Seven political parties that won at least one FPTP seat and three per cent PR votes were recognised as national parties.
The number of parties that won PR seats in provincial assemblies by securing at least 1.5 per cent votes was six each in Province 1, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim, 10 each in Madhes and Lumbini, and 7 each in Bagmati , Gandaki.
