Poudel endorses CPA for statute

TANSEN: Nepali Congress vice president and Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Poudel said on Saturday that the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA) should be implemented for lasting peace and new statute.

Speaking at a press conference organised by Palpa chapter of Nepal Press Union in Tansen, Palpa Poudel said that the peace process should be taken to a logical end and the new constitution must be drafted only after the implementation of peace accords. He said that peace would not be possible with two armies in a single country.

Poudel said that the UCPN-Maoist is hampering the peace process with its anarchic activities. He urged the Maoists to implement the past agreements. He said the Maoists' move to declare autonomous states would breach the CPA.

Poudel said the new constitution would be drafted by May, 2010. He was of the view that consensus among the parties is the best option to resolve the national problems.
