Poudel fires salvo at monarchy

Kathmandu, September 24:

General secretary of the Nepali Congress (NC) Ram Chandra Poudel has branded the institution of monarchy as the “root of all instabilities” and “violence.” Poudel criticised the King for accusing the parties of being “foreign powers-oriented.” He challenged the King to come to the street to prove his popularity. The Nepali Congress general secretary was speaking at a programme organised by the Tanahu-Kathmandu Liaison Committee of the Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) in the capital today. Poudel also accused some some ministers in the council of ministers of dragging the King into controversies. Referring to the King’s five-hour walk from Kupondole to Jawalakhel, the NC general secretary further said: “Making people and young students line up at both sides of the road cannot prove that people are in favour of the King.”
