Power generation drops

Damauli, December 30

With the water flow in rivers decreasing, the volume of power generated from Marshyangdi Hydropower Project in Aanbukhaireni has gone down in Tanahun of late.

According to technician Durga Prasad Dahal of the project powerhouse, the project is generating only 46 MW compared to the earlier production of 69 MW of per day.

“Besides the decreased flow of water, power is currently being generated from only two units as another unit with 23 MW capacity was shut after it went defunct,” informed Dahal. He added, “When the water flow is good, we can produce up to 60 MW through a single unit.”

Power house chief Ram Kumar Yadav also conceded that reduced water level in the river had led to low power generation from the plant.

“The power generation, however, will increase from February when the snow starts melting and the rivers are high,” Yadav said.
