RAJBIRAJ, JULY 27

Electricity Distribution Centre of Rajbiraj, Saptari, has cut off power supply to Rajbiraj Municipality Office, citing non-payment of overdue tariff.

The power supply stopped as per the power utility's policy.

According to distribution centre Chief Amod Yadav, power supply to the municipal office was discontinued as the office had ignored its frequent requests to pay the longstanding dues.

"The office has to pay 1.6 million rupees, but has ignored four reminders to pay the dues, which is why we had to cut off power supply," said Yadav, adding that power line would be restored once the dues were cleared.

Rajbiraj Municipality Chief Administrative Officer Madan Thapa expressed surprise at the sudden power disconnection.

"The municipality has never paid any tariff for using power ever since its establishment. We were taken aback when the NEA cut power without informing us," Thapa said.

Meanwhile, daily services at the municipality have been affected due to power supply disruption.
