Gyawali smells rat in Constitution amendment plan

BUTWAL: CPN-UML Secretary Pradeep Gyawali has said a vicious game is underway in the country in the name of Constitution amendment.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Press Chautari Nepal, Rupandehi chapter, in Butwal today, he said although the government had been talking of the Constitution amendment, it failed to justify the same.

"There is a talk of Constitution amendment to allow a naturalised citizen also to become the head of state, make the Hindi as the national language and to split Gulmi, Palpa and Arghakhanchi, the hill districts which currently come under Province Number 5, from the province. This is not acceptable at all," Gyawali said.

The main opposition party leader stated that the Constitution itself was in a position of being undermined as the government had not yet forwarded the process of holding the elections to all the three tiers of the government by February 11, 2017.

He added that the government was not serious towards holding the elections.
