President to offer 'tika' on Vijaya Dashami

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari will offer 'tika' to members of the general public and distinguished persons on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami on October 19.

Assistant spokesperson at the Office of the President, Keshav Prasad Ghimire, said President Bhandari would offer Dashain tika to distinguished persons from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and to members of the general public from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Vijaya Dashami, the 10th day of Dashain festival.

Government ministers, province chiefs, judges, members of the federal parliament, and office bearers of the constitutional bodies would be among distinguished personalities receiving the tika.

Ghimire said Gate No. 1 to the President's residence would remain open for people wanting to receive tika from the Head-of-the-State on the day.

The President would also offer tika to civil servants, and police and army personnel on the occasion, the Office of the President stated.

Tika is a mixture of vermillion powder, curd and rice grains, which is put on the forehead of junior members of the family by the senior members on the day of Vijaya Dashami.

Tika is offered together with sprouted seedlings called 'jamara' which are considered auspicious for Dashain and symbolic of blessings. Tika symbolises victory and success.
