KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli have extended their best wishes to all Nepali women at home and abroad on the occasion of International Women’s Day for peace, prosperity and happiness.
The 109th Women’s Day is being observed across the country by organising several programmes.
Delivering a message on this occasion, President Bhandari urged one and all to coordinate efforts to end all forms of violence against women (VAW) as well as subjugation and disparity.
The President has called for gender equality, empowerment, guarantee of women rights and human rights and has wished the Day would inspire all to carry out coordinated efforts to ensure rights, equality and empowerment of women.
Furthermore, the Head-of-the-State, in her message said, “At a time when the Constitution of Nepal has guaranteed women rights and the government has emphasised women empowerment and gender equality, to bring about positive changes via strategic provisions and institutional management, Nepal could be an exemplary country for all women.”
Similarly, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has stressed the need for all sectors to implement women rights guaranteed by the constitution for women empowerment.
“It is a matter of joy that the constitution has empowered women with rights,” Vice President Pun said, wishing that the Day would foster further harmony among all Nepali women.
Similarly, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended best wishes to all Nepali sisters and brothers living in the country and abroad on the occasion of International Women’s Day, today. He wished the Day would inspire all to work for socio-economic empowerment of women to make a headway towards prosperity.
On this occasion, PM Oli reminded the role of those who worked and sacrificed their lives to ensure political, economic, social and cultural rights of women.
The Prime Minister mentioned that ill practices such as ‘Chhaupadi’ and dowry system still existed, challenging the society, and urged everyone to end such practices to build a just and civilised society.
Celebrating the achievements Nepal has accomplished on women’s empowerment and rights, the PM lauded the growing participation of women in state mechanisms.
According to PM Oli, the national resolution of Prosperous Nepal Happy Nepalis won’t be realised unless a meaningful change is brought to women’s life.
President attends women’s day function
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has attended the main function of the International Women’s Day in the capital city. The programme hosted by the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen carries the slogan ‘Equal Thought and Treatment: Base for Prosperity’.
