Prez approves army mobilisation for third phase of local polls
KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Thursday approved a decision of the National Security Council to mobilise the Nepal Army for the upcoming local polls slated for September 18.
According to a press statement released by the President's Office today itself, the head-of-the-state approved the decision as per the Article 66.1 of the Constitution of Nepal after PM Sher Bahadur Deuba on August 21 wrote to the President's Office for its necessary approval.
The NSC on August 20 took a decision to mobilise the country's security agencies to coordinated and unified manner for a free and fair election as mentions in the Polls Security Plan 2016.
As in the past, Nepal Army would only be deployed on the peripheral areas of the polling centres across the nation.
