Price hike hits quake victims
Ramechhap, December 30
Earthquake victims of Ramechhap have been hit hard by unexpected price hike of construction materials as they were all set to start construction of their houses.
Locals have no other option but to buy materials at higher prices after the National Reconstruction Authority gave the deadline of January 15, 2018 to receive the second tranche of the housing grant to rebuild their houses.
The victims said they had been facing a tough time after the sudden increase in the price of construction materials.
A local at Khandadevi Rural Municipality Krishna Siwakoti said the hike price had created a number of problems.
Siwakoti further said he had signed a contract to complete as many as 40 houses. “It will be difficult for me to complete the work on time due to the soaring prices of construction materials,” he added.
Shyam Magar of Likhu Rural Municipality said he returned his house with empty hands from Manthali as he could not buy rods, stones , sand and cement, among other construction materials, due to the increased price of construction materials in the district.
Traders in the district said Rs 200 was increased in a sack of cement and eight rupees per kg in rod.
The price of the zinc sheet has also increased. Traders of Manthali said the price of all construction materials had been increased.
Local businessmen said the prices went up after an increase in the transportation fair of the materials imported from India.
