PM extends Eid greetings

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has wished that the great festival of the Muslim community Eid al-Fitr may help further consolidate the feeling of harmony and national unity in the country.

In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the festival today, the Prime Minister has wished ‘Eid Mubarak’ to all Muslim brothers and sisters inside and outside the country.

The festival imparts the message of peace and fraternity. Stating that the preamble of Nepal’s constitution recognises multi-lingual, multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-cultural and geographical diversity of the country, PM in his message said that the main statute of the land ensures every Nepali citizen’s right to participate with enthusiasm and vigour, in religious and cultural festivals of one’s choice.

He has also noted that the Muslim Commission has been working as per the constitutional provision to organise and ensure religious freedom and rights of Muslims in the country. The government has announced a public holiday today, on the occasion of the ‘Eid-al-Fitr’ festival.

Meeting of the Council of Ministers on May 24 had decided to declare a holiday on this festival, this year. The holiday was announced based on a decision taken by a meeting of various organisations, under the leadership of the Muslim Commission on Monday, according to a statement issued by the Home Ministry.
