PM for holistic programme to develop Tarai-Madhes

Kathmandu, July 19

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today proposed developing a holistic programme for the development of Tarai-Madhes.

The prime minister made such a proposal during his meeting with Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal leaders at Baluwatar this evening, according to the PM’s secretariat.

Proposing a holistic programme for Tarai development, Chure conservation, embankments, and setting up of industries, Oli said: “We also need to change our mindsets for Tarai development.”

Receiving a memorandum from RJP-N Presidium Coordinator Mahantha Thakur, Oli said, “Some of the demands have now become irrelevant, so you need to rethink.”

He also said that the constitution would be amended on the basis of need and rationale.

RJP-N leader Anil Kumar Jha said RJP-N leaders submitted a memorandum to Prime minister KP Sharma Oli to amend the constitution as demanded by the party and ensure that its lawmaker Resham Lal Chaudhary gets his election victory certificate and he is administered the oath of office and secrecy. Jha said the RJP-N leaders also told the prime minister to withdraw false cases slapped against party cadres.

The RJP-N leaders also told the PM to arrange for the assistance pledged by Indian PM Narendra Modi during his Janakpur visit. They also told the PM to facilitate the functioning of provincial governments by clearly separating issues that come under provincial governments’ jurisdiction. The PM said he would try to address the RJP-N’s demands. Jha said the PM also assured that the constitution would be amended after some time.
