PM pushes for more investment in hydro power

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today said that his government was committed to make the country prosperous by creating an investment- friendly environment for hydro electricity.

Inaugurating the Hewa Khola , a Hydro Project in Panchthar today, Dahal said the government had accorded top priority to collect investment in hydro power for the prosperity of the country.

Dahal pledged that the government would construct the 762 MW Tamor Reservoir Type Project at any cost as a study about investment feasibility for the project was underway. He expressed belief that construction of Tamor Hydro Project would help mitigate the energy crisis in the country.

Dahal also said the government would announce the dates and schedules of the civic polls within this week. He claimed that his parleys with CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba had helped create an environment for announcing poll dates.

Speaking at the programme, Minister for Energy Janardan Sharma said his ministry was committed to eliminating irregularities prevalent in the energy sector. “I am working to increase people’s participation in the energy sector,” Sharma added.

Panchthar Power Company Managing Director Pushpa Jyoti Dhungana said construction of the project with 14.9 MW capacity was completed at a cost of Rs 2.60 billion.
