GAIGHAT: Properties worth Rs 30 million was damaged after a tanker caught fire on the premises of Galtar-based cement factory in Katari Municipality-8 of Udayapur district on Saturday night.

According to Udayapur District Police Office, a parked tanker vehicle (Na 1 Ka 8977) caught fire on the premises of limestone mine in Sourya Cement Factory at around 11: 00 pm on Saturday.

Police informed that 6,00 litres of diesel contained by the tanker, other 460 litres stored in two barrels, and two Komatsu brand excavators were damaged in the inferno.

The factory's security guard Ram Kumar Rai said that the fire spread from the tanker that suddenly caught the fire.

The fire engine belonging to Katari Municipality, with the help of police and locals took the fire under control the same night, Superintendent of Police (SP) Chandra Dev Rai at the DPO informed. He said that it was yet to establish the cause of the fire that completely damaged the tanker and the excavators.

Meanwhile, investigation into the incident, however, was underway, police informed.
