Property worth over Rs 5m gutted in Rajbiraj downtown blaze

RAJBIRAJ: Property worth more than Rs 5 million were gutted in a fire that broke out at a shop in a four-storey building at Gudari Hatiya in Rajbiraj Municipality-7 of Saptari district on Friday night.

Naushad Shoe Centre, a shop on the ground floor and its warehouse on the first floor belonging to Naseeb Khan, caught fire at around 2:30 am today, according to police.

Property worth more than Rs 5 million have been damaged in the blaze, according to the shop owner Khan.

As many as four fire engines — one each from Lahan in Siraha, Inaruwa in Sunsari, Rajbiraj Municipality and Shambhunath Municipality — with the help of security personnel and locals contained the fire in three hours. Squad from Nepal Army and Nepal Police were mobilised to take the fire under control. Fireman Dharmendra Kumar Yadav was injured after a window glass hit him inflicting cuts on his head.

The fire in the downtown building could not spread further as the fire brigades carried out the operation with the help of security personnel and locals, local Samim Ansari informed.

District Police Office Chief Mukesh Kumar Singh said, police have yet to find the cause of the blaze.
