Protest staged against Rajarshi Janakpur University bill

RAJBIRAJ: A protest has been staged against Rajarshi Janakpur University (RJU) bill in Rajbiraj on Friday. Professors, students and employees of Mahendra Bindeshwari Multiple Campus (MBMC) staged the protest and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister through Chief District Officer Bhagirath Pandey demanding an amendment of the bill.

According to the protesters, some provisions of the bill have put the existence of their campus at risk. The protest committee's coordinator Singheshwor Prasad Yadav said that the government's plan of merging the Tribhuvan University (TU) affiliated campuses of Rajbiraj, Siraha and Janakpur into RJU was wrong.

Likewise, Bholamath Subedi, one of the employees at MBMC, raised objection on government's decision of introducing the bill without holding discussion with his college.

"Government has introduced this bill forcefully and if it is not amended we will launch further protest programmes. We want to stay with TU so government cannot merge us into RJU without consent," said Subedi.

Government had decided to convert Ramswarup Ramsagar Multiple College in Janakpur into RJU in October last year which was endorsed by Legislature-Parliament and authenticated by President.
