Protesters held nationwide

Bhairahwa, March 20:

Police today arrested dozens of party workers for staging protest rallies demanding peace and restoration of democracy across the country. According to a report from Bhairahwa, police arrested four NC cadres including Dipak Chettri Neupane, the president of NC Siddharthanagar Town Committee, secretary Omkumar Shrestha, president Nepal Peasants’ Association, Rupandehi, Atmaram Pant and former Rupandehi NSU president Shailendra Pant.

They have been arrested for interrogation, the Rupandehi district police office said. In Chitwan seven women cadres of Nepali Congress were arrested while they were preparing to stage a protest rally.

Indra Kumari Adhikari, Sharda Gurung, Bhrikuti Poudel, Rama Sapkota, Shushila Rawal, Sunita Aryal and Indu Pandit were arrested, the police said. Meanwhile, in Birgunj police arrested 28 NC cadres including chairman of NC Parsa district committee Rajendra Amatya. Report from Nawalparasi said police arrested 25 NC cadres while they were staging a protest rally. The NC Nawalparasi unit informed that 20 of those arrested were released by 6.00 in the evening but five others including NC district committee chairman Krishnachandra Nepali are still under police custody. In Kalaiya the police arrested 13 NC cadres including central committee member Pharmulah Manshur while they were demonstrating at local Bharat Chwok of the district headquarters Kalaiya. In Janakpurdham police arrested arrested over 90 political cadres including 70 from NC and 22 from CPN-UML today while they were trying to hold a sit-in programme at district administration office, Sarlahi, our Janakpur correspondent reported.
