Protests to be halted

DHANGADHI: Civil Struggle Committee, Kanchanpur, which has been staging protests demanding justice for Nirmala Panta, who was raped and murdered in Kanchanpur on July 26, has halted its scheduled programmes for two days starting Saturday keeping in view a forthcoming marathon.

“As the municipality (Bhimdatta Municipality) is organising a biological corridor marathon on Sunday, we’ve decided to halt our protest for two days since Saturday to make the event a success,” said Civil Struggle Committee Kanchanpur spokesperson Nara Bahadur Saud, who, however, clarified that the agitation would continue after the event.

As per its agitation programme, the struggle committee had called for a shutdown in Kanchanpur on Saturday and planned a huge rally in Mahendranagar bazaar the next day. “The two programmes scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will be held on Monday and Tuesday now,” said the committee spokesperson.

On her part, the committee’s Kanchanpur coordinator Mina Bhandari informed that further agitation programmes to press for the early arrest of the perpetrator (s) would be announced through an upcoming meeting. “As agitation alone is not enough for justice, a meeting on coming Wednesday will decide further programmes,” she said.
