Province 3, Sajha to ink electric bus purchase deal

An agreement will be signed between Province 3 government and Sajha Yatayat for the purchase of electric bus, in Hetauda, tomorrow.

The province government wants to inaugurate the electric bus as the government has purchased share worth Rs 3 million of Sajha Yatyat.

Sajha is bringing the electric bus with joint investment of Rs 450 million of Kathmandu and Lalitpur metropolitan cities and Sajha Yatayat Cooperative and the province government.

The province government will spend Rs 300 million, Kathmandu metropolis Rs 100 million, Lalitpur metropolis Rs 25 million and Sajha will be investing 25 million for the project. Sajha has plans to operate 20 new city buses from July 1. The agreement will he signed on the same occasion.

Province 3 Chief Minister Dormani Poudel said the government has decided to encourage electric vehicles. He added that budget was allocated for electric vehicles a year ago. “But the decision was put on hold due to issues such as charging station, policy and planning and other technical reasons,” he said.

CM Poudel said 30 buses would be brought into operation and 15 to 20 buses would be operated in the valley. He said the government was holding discussion for further procedures with Nepal Electricity Authority for keeping charging stations as per the need.

According to secretariat of the CM, deal will be signed on promotion and management of electric vehicles.
