Punish people charged with graft, Paudel demands

Damauli, February 17

Senior Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel today said government employees involved in corruption cases should not get immunity even if they put in their papers.

Speaking at an interaction organised by Reporters’ Club Nepal in Damauli, Tanahun, Paudel held that the government should punish individuals accused of corruption even after they resign from their posts.

Hinting at allegations levelled against a commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Paudel said, “One takes bribes and then puts in papers to avoid action.” He accused the government of trying to protect a person who should be impeached. “This is unfortunate,” he added.

Paudel flayed the government for not punishing the individual of the anti-graft body even when he was found guilty. He argued that the country would not make headway in development unless the corrupt and guilty were punished. “The KP Sharma Oli-led government is tarnishing the country’s image by promoting and shielding corrupt people,” he charged.

Paudel said the government had failed to bring in development and ensure good governance.  In a different context, Poudel accused Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara of failing to play a neutral role in the Parliament.
