Purbanchal University exam controller’s office vandalised

Biratnagar, August 13:

Students of Eastern College of Engineering today vandalised the examination controller’s office of Purbanchal University and set the office furniture on fire.

The student also hampered the examination of Bachelor of Homeopathic and Masters of Computer Application. The exam could not take place as the students of School of Engineering and Technology locked up the teachers and employees of the examination centre throughout the day.

The students vent their ire after talks held yesterday between students and university, officials

including examination controller Sushil Jha, failed to make headway.

Students from colleges affiliated to the university have been staging a protest against the university officials, demanding resumption of supplementary exams for failed students and reduction of supplementary examination fees. Their other demands include provision for re-examination and re-totalling and publication of the result of final examination within 15 days.

Prafulla Thapa, a university student, said the problem could not be resolved because the vice-chancellor of the university mostly stayed in Kathmandu. The agitation will continue until he returns to Biratnagar, he added. The agitating students also padlocked the vice-chancellor’s office.

Students of three college in Biratnagar — Eastern College of Engineering, School of Engineering and Technology and Purbanchal University Management College — are taking part in the protest.
