Kathmandu, April 10:
Security personnel today barred INSEC (Informal Sector Service Centre) president, Subodh Raj Pyakurel, from meeting CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal, who has been placed under house arrest at his Koteshwor residence since the February 1 royal move.
INSEC general secretary Kundan Aryal said Pyakurel had gone to Nepal’s residence to give him the Nepal Human Rights Year Book 2004 report, which has highlighted gross human rights violations by both the warring sides.
“This incident contradicts with what the government has claimed during the ongoing 61st session of the UNCHR in Geneva,” Aryal said. “The government’s actions do not match with its commitments to the international community,” Pyakurel said in a statement issued after he was turned away from the main entrance to Nepal’s residence.
