Quake resistant houses in Byas

The Byas Municipality has started the construction of earthquake resistant buildings in the city area with the technical assistance of the National Society of Earthquake Technology (NSET). "We have started the work by providing training to the contractors and labourers," said Krishna Raj Panta, engineer at the municipality. Since Nepal is one of the sensitive areas for earthquake, the programme has been implemented to minimize the risk of earthquake, he added.

The NSET informed that Shiva Primary School at Dumsi and Sangam Primary School at Chapaghat are being constructed using this technology.

In Nepal, earthquakes of 7.8 and 7.4 in Richter scale occurred in 1890 and 1990 BS respectively. The earthquake of 1990 BS took 12,815 lives. It also damaged 2,07,740 structures.
