Quake toll reaches 33 in Makawanpur

As many as 33 persons have died and over 100 have sustained injuries due to earthquakes on Saturday and the following day in Makawanpur.

As per data with the district police office, eight, seven and five persons died in Namtar, Aagra and Tistung respectively.

Likewise, two persons lost their lives in each of the municipalities — Hadikhola, Thaha, Hetauda sub-metropolis, Betini and Ipa. One each has died in Kulekhani and Bharta.

Police said the injured are receiving treatment at different health facilities in Makawanpur and Chitwan.

Most old houses in the northern part of Makawanpur have been damaged. According to police, physical structures of Central-regional Nepal Army headquarters, Naya Sabuj Battalion in Suparetar, Hetauda Cement Industry and police posts and health posts have incurred damage.

Namtar and Aagra villages which have recorded huge damage to property and life. Likewise, houses in Hetauda, Shikharpur, Aambhanjyang, Sukaura, Bhimphedi, Daman, Palung, Bajrabarahi and Chitlang have been damaged.

Nepal Red Cross Society Makawanpur chapter has put the figure of damaged houses at over 1,700 and stressed the need to compensation the concerned families. Narayani Mall, which was constructed following ultra-modern technology, has also suffered damage.
