Quake victims consoled

POKHARA, June 30

Minister for Information and Communications Minendra Rijal today visited the rehabilitation centre for quake victims run by Tamu Dhi Nepal at Naya Bazaar in Pokhara.

Rijal has reached the centre to take information from quake survivors. He spoke to 79 injured people of Laprak and Barpak VDCs of Gorkha, who have been living in the centre.

“The government is always ready to support settlements,” he said to the victims. He informed that the Council of Ministers would hold a meeting to shift victims from risky VDCs after identifying the VDCs. “The government will take a decision to relocate quake survivors soon,” he added. Rijal informed that the government has been preparing to shift the settlements of Laprak VDC, which was a geographically risky area, to safer places.

Sympathising with Uma Devi Gurung, who had lost her left foot in the April 25 earthquake, Rijal said the government would support quake victims like her.

“Different foreign agencies have helped tremor victims,” he informed, saying “The foreign aid will be spent among the targeted groups.” He stressed that the government would also help victims with their treatment and education.

Rijal informed that the government has been distributing relief amounts for construction of temporary settlements.
