Rally against splitting parts of Morang, Sunsari from Province 1

Biratnagar, November 18

No sooner had Unified CPN Maoist chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal mooted a change in state demarcation to placate the agitating Madhesi parties than a rally in Biratnagar today warned against tampering with the present demarcation for province no.1 under any pretext.

Participants in the rally taken out with the initiative of the broader civil society, had chanted slogans against the idea of splitting Province No. 1 and readjusting its demarcation.

At a time when the agitation of Madhes-based parties still persists, the UCPN-M had hinted at a possible solution by keeping the areas of high concentration of Madhesi population in Morang and Sunsari districts south to the East-West highway in Province No. 2.

However, participants in the rally have taken exception to the proposal, saying tearing off parts of the district from province no-1 would put the unique cultural identity and geographical uniqueness of the districts in jeopardy.

The rally that had started from Mahendra Chowk traversed through different thoroughfares of the city and concluded at the district administration office, where participants handed over a memorandum to the government through the district administration against tampering with the current territories of Province No. 1.
