Rangeli firing affects Birgunj as well
BIRGUNJ: A demonstration staged by cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), protesting the death of three killed in Rangeli firing on Friday has disturbed the normal life in Birgunj.
The UDMF cadres have been burning tyres in different places of the city including Ghantaghar, Power House Chok, Ranighat, Maisthan, Birta, Chapkaiya, Pratimachok and Miteri Bridge.
Meanwhile, a clash erupted between the cadres and the security personnel near Ghantaghar following their protests.
The cadres also vandalised a pickup truck (Na 10 Cha 8324) and the Ghantaghar-based Nepal Telecom office. They also burned a circuit box of the Nepal Telecom in the protest.
Due to their protest, the Birgunj Bazaar has been completely shut. The transportation services have come to a stop as well.
Three persons were killed in police firing in Morang’s Rangeli and Dainiya on Thursday after cadres of the UDMF clashed with police personnel and activists of Youth Association Nepal, CPN-UML's student wing. Sixteen persons, including six police personnel, were injured in the clashes.
