Rape convict held after 22 years
Gaighat, September 13
A person, who was convicted of rape, has been sent to prison after 22 years of the verdict.
Hari Narayan Sada, 43, of Triyuga Municipality-4, who was arrested by the police yesterday on charges of raping a local woman about 26 years ago, was sent to prison today.
Sada was once arrested in the rape case. But he was given a clean chit by Udayapur District Court, which then prompted the victim’s family to file an appeal against the verdict at the Appellate Court in Rajbiraj.
Sada had been on the run ever since the appellate court convicted him and slapped a four- year jail term. The rapist was 19 years old when he committed the crime. As a fugitive, he had been in hideouts in many places, including India.
“After police knew few days ago that Sada was hiding in Siraha’s Lahan, he was arrested from his hideout in the evening. He was then produced at the court and sent to prison in Udayapur” said First-class Non-gazetted Officer Narayan Thapa at the Appellate Court of Rajbiraj.
Besides him, two others involved in the crime, were also convicted by the court in the rape case. They are still at large. The court refused to reveal the names of the fugitives citing security reasons.
