RJP-N calls CC meeting for Aug 2-4

Kathmandu, July 21

Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal today decided to hold its Central Working Committee meeting from August 2 to 4 and Central Committee meeting from August 5.

Member of the RJP-N Presidium Rajendra Mahato said the party had not decided on the closing date of the CC meeting as it did not know how long it would continue. This is the first time the RJP-N has called its Central Committee meeting after six Madhes-based parties merged to create a unified RJP-N in April.

Mahato said the two meetings of higher bodies of the party would discuss contemporary political issues and finalise policies that the party would pursue in the coming days. The RJP-N is expected to discuss constitutional issues and its future strategies.

The party has demanded that the constitution be amended to revise provincial boundaries to ensure population-based representation in the Upper House of the Parliament and to increase the number of local levels in Madhes in proportion to the population of the region, among other things.

The RJP-N had boycotted the first and second round of local polls, saying the government failed to fulfil its key political demands.

The RJP-N Central Working Committee has 134 members and Central Committee 815 members.
