RJP-Nepal submits memorandum to govt

Kathmandu, August 16

The Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal today submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba demanding allocation of Rs 26 billion for relief for flood victims of the Tarai region immediately.

The RJP-N has also asked the government to coordinate with national as well as international aid organisations and governments through their diplomatic missions in Nepal, United Nations, Asian Development Bank, European Union, USAID and the Indian government for financial as well as technical help for rescue, relief and compensation to flood victims.

The RJP-N has also asked the government to conduct Post-Disaster Needs Assessment and organise a donor conference on the basis of the assessment to help flood victims. The party has also demanded formation of a Flood Affected Area Reconstruction Authority and a high-level committee under the leadership of the prime minister that comprises representatives of all parties to support reconstruction drive. The s further demanded that all organisations willing to provide help to the flood victims be allowed to do so.

The party also drew the government’s attention to the risk of possible epidemic outbreak  in flood-hit districts.
