RPP requests Election Commission to rethink changing party statute

KATHMANDU: The ruling Rastriya Prajatantra Party on Sunday requested the Election Commission to rethink its decision to delete sections about Hinduism and monarchy from the party statute.

The party's Vice-Chairman Buddhiman Tamang handed over a memorandum to Election Commissioner Ishwari Prasad Paudel today demanding that the constitutional body rethink its decision.

The party had submitted a similar memorandum earlier as well.

Last month, the EC had decided to remove the portion that advocates Hindu state and monarchy from the RPP statute claiming the sections contradicted constitutional provisions of republican order and secularism.

Subsequently, the party led by Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa had announced various protest programmes against the move.
