RAUTAHAT: A gang of thieves dug tunnels through four houses and ran off with Rs 1.3 million in Harsaha Tole in Katahariya Municipality, Rautahat on Saturday night.

The unidentified gang made off with cash, jewellery, clothing and gadgets worth Rs 1.3 million, officials informed.

According to a victim-family at local Jagat Yadav’s house, the thieves took Rs 50,000 in cash, a Dell laptop and new clothing worth Rs 32,000.

Likewise, local Manoj Yadav was robbed of 10-tola-gold, mobile phone and Rs 10,000 in cash. Similarly, the thieves took goods worth Rs 300,000 from a house belonging to Fenku Das, informed Manoj Das, sub inspector of police at Area Police Office in Katahariya.

According to the victims, the robbers bore four tunnels in four houses during midnight hours, hauled zinc boxes loaded with goods to a nearby field, emptied the boxes and ran off.

Following the incident, law enforcement officers have launched a search operation.

Further investigation into the case is underway, informed police.
