Reconstruction of historical heritages at snail's pace in Kavre

KAVREPALANCHOK: The reconstruction of the earthquake-ravaged historical heritages in Kavrepalanchok district is being carried out at snail's pace.

The 2015 earthquake had devastated 68 historical heritages in the district.  According to the Department of Archaeology's data, currently, 23 temples and rest houses are under construction while Dapcha-based Bhimsen Temple has been completed.

The Department’s Research Officer Mohan Singh Lama said the delay in the release of the budget for the heritage reconstruction and short of competent human resource lagged the rebuild efforts. He added, “The reconstruction of heritages hit the snag due to short of human resource in the making of artistic windows, doors and pillar. It is quite difficult to complete the construction in the stipulated time.”

The delay in the construction of heritages is obvious as the historical structures are required to be rebuilt on traditional style, said Leela Lama, a construction entrepreneur.

The federal government has taken up the responsibility of post-quake reconstruction.
