Reconstruction will be ramped up: Acting PM Nidhi
KATHMANDU: Acting Prime Minister Bhimalendra Nidhi affirmed that the government would ramp up the post-quake reconstruction programmes.
Speaking at an event on the occasion of 19th Earthquake Memorial Day organised by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), acting PM Nidhi said that a new Chief Executive Officer was appointed at the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) for the same.
Nidhi, who is the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, pledged to turn around the situation and help the quake-stricken to return to their lives before the quake struck.
He also noted the need of awareness programmes to save people from the earthquake.
At the programme, Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Hit Raj Pandey stressed the need to comply with the building code while reconstructing the buildings.
The Earthquake Memorial Day is being marked across the country under the theme, "Base for quake victims' security, house and infrastructure which can withstand earthquake".
The government has been marking the Day on Magh 2 of the Nepali calendar every year in the memory of the great earthquake which struck Nepal in 1934.
