Relay hunger strike at Saptari school

Rajbiraj, November 21

A group led by former chairpersons of the School Management Committee of Janata Secondary School at Khurahuriya of Bishnupur Rural Municipality-1, Saptari district, has been staging a relay hunger strike at the school for the past two days with its a six-point demand.

Former chairpersons of the Janata Secondary School Management Committee Dilip Kumar Yadav and Jaya Narayan Yadav, along with Dev Narayan Sharma, Darpi Yadav, Bishweshwor Mandal and Mahesh Kumar Yadav, started their indefinite hunger strike at the front gate of the school yesterday by padlocking the principal’s office, account office and school management committee sitting chairperson’s office.

The strikers have accused the school Principal Surya Narayan Yadav of dilly-dallying in making public the income and expenses of the educational institute despite frequent requests of the public.

Similarly, they have demanded that the school call a guardians’ meeting at the earliest, make transparent the teacher selection process and implement the decisions taken by the majority members of the school management committee.

Likewise, they have also demanded that the school clear the arrears amounting to over 18 million rupees.

School Principal Yadav, on his part, alleged that the school padlock and hunger strike was carried out at the behest of persons who were not happy when the school refused to appoint their relatives as teachers in the primary level.

“The alleged irregularities or whatever is just a façade. At the heart of this is something else,” the school principal said.
