Relief distribution to flood survivors gains momentum in mid-western Nepal

NEPALGUNJ: The distribution of relief packages to the flood-stricken in four districts of the mid-western region worst hit by monsoon-triggered flooding is gaining pace.

The distribution is taking place under the first phase in Banke, Bardiya, Dang and Surkhet through the District Natural Disaster Relief Committee (DNDRC). The government is handing out cash, rice grains, grams, salt, oil, clothes and tents among other essentials to the members of the families struck by flooding and landslides.

The displaced families have also been relocated into camps where security forces have been deployed to prevent any untoward activities against women, Regional Police Office said.

Banke Chief District Officer (CDO) Ramesh Kumar KC said various cluster groups formed under the DNDRC for overseeing education, health and sanitation, rehabilitation and relief distribution programmes have been sent to the villages struck by flooding.

The non-governmental organisations too have been providing the DNDRC the necessary data needed on the flood-stricken.
