Relief materials for quake victims
Sindhulimadi, September 28
Relief materials, which were supposed to be distributed to quake victims in Sindhuli, has begun to rot in different stores.
Items such as rice, among others, offered by many organisations and the state have started to decay. As many as 450 sacks of rice have started to rot in the conference hall of District Development Committee, Sindhuli. The concerned authority is yet to confirm who are the genuine victims who are supposed to receive these items.
Similarly, food items such as pulses, and beaten rice among others have been stored in offices of Kapilakot, Kyaneshwor, Lampantar, Jhagajholi, Ratmata, Bastpur VDCs among others in the district.
Assistant Chief District Officer Basu Dev Kafle said they were awaiting district disaster rescue committee’s decision to distribute relief materials to quake victims.
Though relief materials such as food, tarps, among others were distributed following the massive earthquake and subsequent aftershocks, the district is said to be plagued with officials misusing relief materials.
The District Disaster Rescue Committee, which lacks knowledge about the volume of relief materials provided by national and international organisations had been distributing the relief items through one-door system. But the distribution is said to have been mismanaged due to various factors.
