Republic or PR system, one is a must: Maoist leader
Pokhara, November 19:
Maoist leader Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ today said the Maoists can agree on reconsidering one of their two demands if the seven parties agree on either one of their demands for a republic and a fully proportional electoral system for CA polls.
Speaking at a press conference organised by the Kaski chapter of Revolutionary Journalists’ Association in Pokhara, he said, “The Maoists are ready to reconsider the demand for fully proportional electoral system if republic is announced by the parliament.”
Stressing the need for seven-party unity, Biplav said, Maoists can also adopt flexibility on republic if the Nepali Congress agrees on fully proportional representation.
Claiming that the Maoists wanted CA polls at the earliest, he asked the seven parties to move towards holding the polls by taking bold decision on suspending and fully controlling the king.
