Resolve Nepal crisis in 17 months: Ex-President to parties

POKHARA: Former President Dr Ram Baran Yadav said Nepali people would not forgive the political parties if they failed to resolve the political crisis, including that related to Tarai-Madhes, country within 17 months.

He was of the opinion that the major parties should be able to address the issues of Tarai-Madhes as soon as possible and hold fresh elections in all three levels – local, provincial and federal –by January 2018. Dr Yadav was addressing the 25th national council meeting of Amnesty International Nepal here in Pokhara today.

Major Parties should resolve the issues related to provinces and convince the Madhesi parties to accept the Constitution

“The second Constituent Assembly made a democratic constitution,” said Dr Yadav, who as the president promulgated Nepal’s Constitution in September last year, “Resolving the issues of province and implementing it [Constitution], the major parties should bring the Madhesi parties also under the ambit of the Constitution.”

“It is our domestic issue and should be resolved within.”

Hailing the Constitution as the best, he suggested the Madhesi parties not to mark the Constitution Day as “black day”.
