Him Prasad Bhattarai of Bharatpur metropolis, Chitwan, has set an example for all those who want to do something productive after retirement.
Bhattarai served as an employee for 30 years in Agriculture Development Bank, Bharatpur, and retired as a branch manager nine months ago. He now spends most of his time in horticulture. He has planted banana, dragon fruit and papaya in 23 bigaha land in Khairahani Municipality.
Surya Bhakta Oja and Bhattarai jointly started the horticulture farm taking a loan of Rs 60 lakh from Banijya Bank and started commercially producing fruits.
Bhattarai said he had cultivated banana plants in 20 bigaha land.
Bhattarai holds MSc degree in Horticulture. “I have not faced any problem in this area as I have theoretical knowledge of plants and herbs,” he added. He said that he had enough knowledge about how to plant saplings, prepare soil and also irrigation methods. “I am hopeful that I will be able to earn around Rs 50 lakh annually from the orchard,” he said.
Bhattarai said he was preparing to start organic farming in three bigaha land. “It is better to have an active life even after retirement,” he said.
