KATHMANDU: National and international human rights organisations today welcomed the ratification of Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by the legislature parliament yesterday.

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR-Nepal), in a press release, acknowledged the government’s commitment to protect and promote the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities. “This Convention has undergone the fastest ratification processes in the UN history,” read the statement. Federation of Disabled-Nepal and Forum for Women, Law and Development, in a joint statement, urged for effective implementation of the Convention.
