Road accidents claim 11 lives
Palpa/Bardiya, January 12:
Eleven persons were killed and at least 30 injured in separate road mishaps in two districts today.
Seven persons were killed and two injured when a truck heading to Nepalgunj from Pokhara met with an accident at Tallo Siddababa of Devan-5 in Palpa last night.
Six persons died on the spot while one died while undergoing treatment at Lumbini Zonal
Hospital in Butwal, Palpa District Police Office said, adding that the ill-fated truck skidded 50
metres down from the road into Tinau River.
The deceased have been identified as Bharani Chaudhari, 40, Kanhai Chaudhari, 25, Ram Chandra Chaudhari, 45, Dharma Chaudhari, 42, Bhumi Sudhan Chaudhari, 44, Silanya Chaudhari, 44 and Govinda Chaudhari, 19, the police said.
The two injured passengers, Durga Gharti and Dhiren Chaudhari, are undergoing treatment in Lumbini Zonal Hospital, the police added.
Meanwhile, four persons were killed and 28 injured when two buses collided at Sainwar of
Bagnaha VDC-8, along the East-West highway in Bardiya district, this morning.
The accident occurred when a bus heading to Nepalgunj from Mahendranagar collided head-on with another bus, Bardiya District Police Office said.
Nirmala Khadka, 28 of Bagnaha, Ram Bahadur Khatri, 40 of Naulapur, Dhurba Prasad Dhamal, 30 of Patabhar and an unidentified person were killed in the accident, SP Ganesh KC said.
Narendra Prakash Banjade and Nandaram Thapa who were critically injured in the accident are being treated in Kohalpur Teaching Hospital.
As the area was enveloped by thick fog from the early morning, the buses might have collided due to low visibility, the police said. As the crashed buses blocked the road, traffic remained obstructed on the highway throughout the day today.
