Road repair delay irks locals

Jhapa, September 30:

Locals have warned of obstructing vehicular movement, if the Damak-based International Organisation for Migration (IOM) did not act on the agreement reached between two sides.

Some seven months ago, the IOM had agreed to repair the 3-km road around its office in the presence of Damak Municipality and local residents.

Handing over a memorandum to the IOM, the locals threatened of bringing all vehicles to a standstill in Damak area if the international body did not repair the road before Tihar.

Signed by 100 locals, the memorandum stated that the vehicles belonging to the IOM have caused various problems by blowing horns unnecessarily and ignoring the traffic rules. It is said that the generators installed on the IOM office premise have also caused noise pollution.

The locals have also demanded that the armed police unit stationed inside the IOM office for security be transferred. “If the demands were not met, IOM should transfer its office,” a local, Meghraj Timsina said.
